Firelands Regional Medical Center is a locally managed and governed, not-for-profit healthcare facility that provides a full range of allopathic and osteopathic medical services. As a regional medical center providing advanced care and services, Firelands Regional Medical Center serves a significant market share from the counties of Erie, Ottawa, Sandusky, and Huron resulting in a regional service area of over 300,000 residents. Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services reaches even further, with 10 offices in 7 counties. Firelands Home Health Services currently serves 10 counties in total. Combined, Firelands Regional Medical Center has 30 separate facilities in the area. Located within close proximity to its main and south campus areas in Sandusky, Firelands has a new behavioral health facility, a corporate health clinic, an outpatient dialysis center, a number of medical office facilities, PT facilities, and outreach lab facilities. Firelands Regional Medical Center is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities).

The Firelands Regional Medical Center Medical Staff consists of over 200 doctors representing 40 specialties and subspecialties. Firelands provides a Medical Education Program which has evolved throughout the years to become one of the most outstanding and respected training programs in Ohio. The hospital prides itself on the quality of training provided on various levels for both allopathic and osteopathic physicians.

The hospital has instituted a Hospitalist Program that is available to provide 24-hour/seven-day-a-week coverage for members of the Medical Staff.

Firelands Regional Medical Center has established affiliations and partnerships with several schools, ranging from high schools to colleges and universities, to foster careers in nursing and other healthcare related fields. The hospital provides a nurse residency and nurse intern program, and operates The Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing. Additional partnerships have been established with University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital to provide Firelands Regional Medical Center with Pediatric Hospitalists and with University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center.

As a result of our expanded services and Medical Staff, more and more people are relying on Firelands Regional Medical Center to serve their healthcare needs. Recognizing the importance a hospital plays in the local economy, in 2008 Firelands Regional Medical Center invested $146.9 million to add a 5-story patient tower, 13 state-of-the-art surgical suites, a comprehensive Cancer Center, an attached parking garage, as well as renovations to other service centers within the facilities. The Medical Center continues to be a leader in the economic development of the local region.
