Giving to the Foundation

Giving to the Foundation

The reasons our donors make gifts to The Foundation for Firelands are as diverse as the donors themselves. They honor loved ones or friends, recognize the accomplishments of their parents, pay tribute to the care provided by our medical staff, or leave a legacy of quality healthcare for future generations.

Many of our donors make a gift to The Foundation as a means of securing their own financial future through a planned gift. Others support a specific service or program of particular interest to them. A gift to support Firelands Regional Medical Center is a gift to the community, improving the health of our children, our workforce and our neighborhoods.

Cancer Program Tribute Wall

You can honor a loved one and support the University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at Firelands Regional Medical Center with a donation of $100 or more. Both your name and that of the person you are honoring will be added to the Tribute Wall located in the lobby of the cancer center. The Tribute Wall also displays an original painting, Distant Shore, by Ohio artist and cancer survivor Kathleen Whitmer, as a symbol of hope for our patients and families.

Cancer Program Fund

The Foundation for Firelands Cancer Program Fund provides services and amenities to patients undergoing cancer treatment and care at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at Firelands Regional Medical Center. Your donations to this fund help underinsured and uninsured patients receive the care they need, allowing them to concentrate on their health. Your gifts lessen the financial burden and stress of the mounting medical bills that come with a diagnosis of cancer. Gifts to the Firelands Cancer Program Fund provide medications, various therapies, transportation and nutrition assistance to cancer patients in need. The fund also offers counseling and support for patients and family.

This fund helps patients who cannot afford preventive screenings and diagnostic tests because of their insurance status. Your donation will also help patients undergoing breast cancer treatment by providing funding for medications, nutritional needs and transportation to doctor's appointments. Surgical patients are given a post-mastectomy camisole and an informational book on surviving breast cancer.

Heart Center Tribute Wall

You can honor a loved one and support the Firelands Heart Center with a donation of $100 or more. Both your name and that of the person you are honoring will be added to the Tribute Wall located in the lobby of the Firelands Heart Center. Estate and Planned Gifts

Gift planning is a gift that can change lives and a way for you to help advance local healthcare and achieve your retirement and estate planning goals at the same time. Gift planning is an art that combines financial, estate, and tax planning to enable our friends to make gifts of remarkable significance—often with surprising tax and financial rewards. Opportunities include:

Endowed Gifts
Endowed gifts grow throughout the years and will continue to support Firelands Regional Medical Center for generations to come. They are invaluable in providing a consistent stream of revenue to support our medical center programs, medical education programs and the School of Nursing. You may choose to designate your favorite medical center program to endow, or benefit all programs

Charitable Trusts
A charitable remainder trust is one of the most valuable investment and estate planning strategies available to donors today. A charitable remainder trust enables you to:

  • Avoid capital gains taxes
  • Enjoy a charitable income tax deduction
  • Convert highly appreciated assets into an income stream
  • Reduce estate taxes
  • Diversify your investment portfolio

Charitable Gift Annuity
A charitable gift annuity allows you to make a contribution to The Foundation for Firelands and receive, in turn, guaranteed payments for life. Charitable gift annuities allow you to make a substantial gift and still receive ongoing income from assets.

In addition to guaranteed payments, benefits of a charitable gift annuity include:

  • A charitable deduction in the year of the gift
  • An annuity rate often higher than the interest paid on current fixed investments
  • Capital gains tax savings
  • A tax-free portion of the payments
  • The satisfaction of helping those in need in our community

Our donors have found that opportunities which benefit themselves and their families can also help fund capital improvements and special programs for Firelands Regional Medical Center and the greater community we all serve. We invite you to share this site with your professional advisors as you discuss your estate, retirement and philanthropic plans with them.
