Welcome to Firelands
For more than 40 years, Firelands Regional Medical Center has provided osteopathic medical education in Northwest Ohio. Fostering a collegial environment, both allopathic and osteopathic physicians work together to offer a quality clinical medical education to our trainees.
Didactics
Firelands combines a strong didactic program with a busy regional medical health care system that features an active Heart Institute, one of the busiest ER’s in the CORE system, a large psychiatric unit, delivers nearly 1,000 newborns per year, and has full Intensive Care Unit staffed by skilled cardiologists and pulmonologists. This allows our students and residents to experience one of the strongest medical education programs available within the CORE OPTI.
Mentoring
Our Medical Education Department uses a unique system of mentoring for students and residents where students are assigned to specific residents and attending physicians mentor residents. The Mentor Program has facilitated the transition from the classroom to the clinical educational years for all the levels of trainees. Highly trained instructors emphasize OMM throughout the educational continuum with regular OMM Rounds being taught.
CORE
Firelands Regional Medical Center is a sponsor of
CORE (Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education), a consortium of the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and 16 Ohio osteopathic hospitals. All the CORE hospitals are linked by powerful, interactive video communication and distance learning technologies. Firelands and its training programs are fully accredited by the American Osteopathic Association.
