Medical Education
For more than 40 years, Firelands Regional Medical Center has provided osteopathic medical education in Northwest Ohio. Fostering a collegial environment, both osteopathic and allopathic physicians work together to provide our trainees with superb clinical medical education.

We are affiliated with The Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE), an integrated statewide medical education consortium formed by affiliations between Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and teaching hospitals in Ohio, as well as other colleges of osteopathic medicine nationwide. All CORE partners are linked via real-time videoconferencing and distance learning technology as well as global, interactive, online Internet access.

Firelands offers the following AOA-accredited programs – Traditional Rotating Internship, Family Practice Residency, Internal Medicine Residency, Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship, and Neuromuscular Medicine Plus One Fellowship. We are a core site for OUCOM, DMUCOM, KCUMB, and AZCOM, and medical student rotations in a wide number of specialties are also offered.

Our medical education department is known for its collegial atmosphere. We strive to maintain a healthy balance between a robust training experience and a balanced lifestyle. Residents enjoy great camaraderie, and the hospital sponsors many team-building events such as an annual Lake Erie fishing trip, group outings to Cleveland sporting events, and bowling nights.
