Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/Computed Tomography (CT)
PET/CT is an imaging procedure that gives physicians information about the body's chemistry, function and exact location of disease. The precise images obtained with this procedure are a valuable adjunct to other imaging like CT, MRI or x-ray.
PET scans are most often used to detect cancer and to examine the effects of cancer therapy by characterizing biochemical changes in the cancer. PET scans of the brain are sometimes used to evaluate patients who have memory disorders of an undetermined cause, who have suspected or proven brain tumors, or who have seizure disorders that are not responsive to medical therapy and as a result are candidates for surgery.
