what we do : Imaging Services
Our Services
Firelands Regional Medical Center provides a wide range of imaging services. All services are provided at the Main Campus and many of the procedures can also be scheduled at Firelands Regional Medical Center Imaging Services located at 2500 W. Strub Road, Suite 130, Sandusky. Ask about location availability when scheduling your appointment.

Breast MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the breast is a non-invasive test that captures multiple cross-sectional pictures of the breast using a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency, and a computer to generate detailed 2D and 3D pictures. This is performed when doctors require more information than a mammogram, ultrasound, or clinical breast exam can provide.
Provided only at 1111 Hayes Ave. location.

CT Scanning
Often called a CAT scan, computer tomography (CT) uses special x-ray equipment to image different angles of the body. Through the use of computer processing, the data is structured to provide cross sectional images of the body.

Catheter Angiography
Catheter Angiography is commonly performed to detect a narrowing or blockage of a blood vessel, to identify abnormally dilated blood vessels, to determine the site of internal bleeding, and to perform angioplasty and stent replacement.
Provided only at 1111 Hayes Ave. location.

DEXA (Bone Densitometry)
To detect osteoporosis accurately, doctors use an enhanced low-dose x-ray technology called dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA or DXA) to measure bone density. Bone density measurements are commonly taken from the lower back or hip areas. When tracked over time, the physician can monitor the risk for fracture or osteoporosis.

Diagnostic Imaging (X-ray)
Diagnostic imaging, more commonly known as x-ray, is comprehensive imaging of all the bony structures of the body as well as lungs and some internal organs. The part of the body being pictures is positioned between the X-ray machine and detector. The machine briefly sends electromagnetic waves (radiation) through the body, exposing the detector to reflect a person’s internal structure.

Digital Mammography
This type of mammogram provides incredibly sharp images with a lower dose of radiation immediately available to the radiologist and also allows the radiologist to magnify, adjust contrast, rotate or pinpoint areas of concern on the digital image for clearer readings. It produces better images for dense breasts and the files are stored and shared more easily.

MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses radio frequency waves and a strong magnetic field to obtain detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues.
Open MRI performed only at 2500 West Strub Road location. Due to technical considerations, many studies cannot be done on Open MRI.

Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine is a subspecialty within the field of radiology. The images are developed based on the detection of energy emitted from a radioactive sub stance given to the patient intravenously or orally. Generally, radiation to the patient is similar to that resulting from standard X-ray examinations.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/Computed Tomography (CT)
PET/CT is an imaging procedure that gives physicians information about the body’s chemistry, function, and exact location of the disease.
Provided only at 1111 Hayes Avenue location.

Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
This biopsy uses computerized imaging of the breast from different angles to determine the precise location of an abnormality.
Provided only at 703 Tyler Street, Suite 152 location.

Ultrasound (including Breast Ultrasound & Ultrasound-guided Biopsy)
Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of the anatomy. Reflected sound waves are received and produce real-time images. Through this technology, movement, including blood flow or a baby’s heart beating, is able to be seen.

Vascular Ultrasound
Using the same technology as traditional ultrasound, vascular exams check for blockage or narrowing of veins and arteries as well as monitor the blood flow to internal structures.

We accept orders from any physician and accept most major insurances.

SPICE Program
Providing mammograms, diagnostic testing, treatment, and survivorship support for African-American women in Erie County who are low-income, uninsured, or underinsured.
