Dr. Tanen Brown Appointed as Resident Council for the National American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians

February 17, 2017 – Sandusky, Ohio -- Firelands Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce that Tanen T. Brown, DO, has been appointed to the Resident Council of the National American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP).

Since September 2016, Dr. Brown has served as the Resident Representative for the Ohio-ACOFP, where he acts as a liaison to the local ACOFP chapter on behalf of all resident family physicians who are still in training in Ohio. This recent recognition means Dr. Brown will continue representing Resident Physicians, but on a national level.

The ACOFP is the governing board that is responsible for licensing each Osteopathic Family Physician in the country. They are responsible for setting the standards of care for which all Osteopathic Family Physician must meet in order to be specialized in that discipline. The ACOFP is also a lobbyist group that advocates at the local, state and federal government levels for the improvement of patient care and the profession as a whole.

The selection process for the Ohio-ACOFP Resident Representative is vigorous and requires excellent academic standing, a letter of recommendation from the residency director, and curriculum vitae along with a letter of intent.

Dr. Brown will join a select group of other Family Medicine Residents from around the country to draft, discuss and submit resolutions to the ACOFP congress of delegates reflecting the national resident opinions on resident concerns.

“I am very humbled by this opportunity and I am thrilled to be a part of such a prestigious institution on a national level,” Dr. Brown said.

Dr. Brown has been a member of the Firelands Family Medicine Residency Program for two years. He earned his undergraduate degree from California State University Channel Islands in Camarillo, California. He attended medical school at Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific.

Originally from California, Dr. Brown currently resides in Sandusky.
