Firelands Regional Medical Center Dialysis Receives 5-Star Rating

June 14, 2017 – Sandusky, Ohio -- Firelands Regional Medical Center dialysis services, located at 904 Pierce Street, Sandusky, has received a five-star rating for quality by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The clinic has received this rating three years in a row and is the only dialysis clinic in a 50-mile radius to receive a five-star rating.

“Our goal every day is to provide quality care to our patients,” said Julia Colavincenzo, RN, CNN, director of dialysis services at Firelands Regional Medical Center. “Receiving this recognition reinforces that our patients are getting the best dialysis care possible in our area. We are honored that we have received this five-star rating for three consecutive years and will continue to make the care of our patients a top priority.”

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services implemented a five-star quality rating system in January 2015, evaluating the quality of care provided by dialysis centers in an effort to provide patients, their families, and their caregivers the ability to compare centers and decide where they would prefer to receive their dialysis treatments.

In evaluating a facility, the following health statistics are reviewed:
• Mortality rates
• Hospitalization rates
• Infection rates
• Dialysis treatment adequacy
• Patient experience survey data

The website Dialysis Facility Compare Star Program can be found at medicare.com/dialysisfacilitycompare and provides access to data easily and for comparison to other clinics in the area.
