Nancy Brown Earns IBCLC Certification, Becomes Certified Lactation Consultant


January 6, 2017 – Sandusky, Ohio -- Nancy Brown, RNC, MNN, a member of the obstetric nursing staff at Firelands Regional Medical Center, has successfully passed the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification examination. She has been awarded the title International Board Certified Consultant (IBCLC).

This certification is recognition that an individual has met eligibility requirements and has passed a rigorous exam that assesses knowledge in breastfeeding management. IBCLC certificants provide expert breastfeeding and lactation care, promote changes that support breastfeeding and help reduce the risks of not breastfeeding. IBLCE establishes the highest standards in lactation and breastfeeding care worldwide and certifies individuals who meet these standards.

Firelands Regional Medical Center has multiple International Board Certified Lactation Consultants. Firelands has provided recent breastfeeding training for medical staff who care for new families and have recently completed activities that help protect, promote and support breastfeeding. In addition to this, the Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies program from the Ohio Hospital Association and the Ohio Department of Health has recognized Firelands for its emphasis on breastfeeding and breastfeeding programs.

As an IBCLC, Nancy enjoys working with breastfeeding families in order to support them in achieving their breastfeeding goals.
