Firelands Regional Medical Center receives opioid federal awards in the fight against addiction
(October 2, 2018) Firelands Regional Health System is pleased to announce that they have received federal awards from the Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) to help in the opioid crisis that is effecting not only Erie County, but the entire state of Ohio.
Firelands Regional Medical Center was awarded $750,000 over three years under the Rural Health Opioid Program. The Rural Health Opioid Program is designed to expand the delivery of opioid related health care services in rural communities and reduce opioid overdoses in those communities.
“We are excited to expand services under this funding,” said Marsha Mruk, vice president of Firelands Regional Medical Center Counseling and Recovery Services. “The opioid crisis has claimed too many lives in our community and we must work together to provide a continuum of care to address this scourge.”
The main goals and objectives of this project is to increase the identification of individuals with opioid use disorder, increase engagement in treatment, increase retention in treatment, and decrease fragmentation of care within the community.
