Mental Health First Aid Training to Be Held in Sandusky

(April 19, 2018 – Sandusky, Ohio) Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services is offering a Mental Health First Aid training course on Thursday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2211 Mills Street, Sandusky.

This 8-hour course, taught by Bruce Kijowski, LISW-S, and Karen Russell, PCC-S, LCDC III, teaches how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or is experiencing a mental health crisis. The training helps participants identify, understand, and respond to signs of addiction and mental illness.

Open to the public and residents of Erie County, attendees will learn:

  • Risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems
  • Information on depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and addiction disorders
  • A 5-step action plan to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or is in a crisis
  • Where to turn for help – professional, peer and self-help resources

There is no cost for participants, and lunch will be provided. Registration is required by May 14. Please call 419-557-5177.
