(January 5, 2018 – Sandusky, Ohio) Firelands Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce that Sarah Henkel, MS, EMTP, director of safety and security, has been selected as the December Beacon of Light Award winner. Sarah has been employed with Firelands for 4 years.

The Firelands Beacon of Light is a program developed to recognize team members who exemplify and exhibit the values of Firelands Regional Medical Center in the form of exceptional Attitude, Commitment and Enthusiasm (ACE). The award goes to individuals who ACE it every day for patients and coworkers.

Sarah’s nomination confirmed this commitment. “Sarah brought a lot of Emergency Management experience to Firelands. She continues to educate the staff with [her] knowledge of fire training, code silver and code black. She does so with a smile and the most proactive “can do” attitude I have seen. She thoroughly loves working here and is focused on educating our staff in a way that makes them involved and [helps them] remember what to do during an incident. She has coordinated numerous live disaster exercises with as many as 300 people with support from local agencies including Cedar Point.”

“The kind, polite and enthusiastic way she communicates with every person is contagious and if you are not having the best day, the interaction [with Sarah] is sure to lift you up.”

Sarah not only brings her ACE attitude to work, but to the community through the various organizations she is actively involved in. She is a participant and board member for the Sandusky Area Safety Council, she helped establish our local Regional Healthcare Coalition, organizes Safety Day for the incoming kindergarten students in Sandusky and is a board member for the Development Nursery School in Vermilion. Sarah’s ACE personality makes her a great candidate for the Beacon of Light.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys line dancing, home improvement and gardening. She resides in Vermilion with her two young children, James and Annaliese.
