Firelands Regional Medical Center Celebrates National Breastfeeding Month


(July 22, 2019 – Sandusky, Ohio)  August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month and Firelands Regional Medical Center is joining other organizations to celebrate breastfeeding awareness through World Breastfeeding Week (August 1 – 7) and National Breastfeeding Month. 

On Saturday, August 3, at 10:00 a.m., women, families, and children will gather at the EHOVE Career Center, 316 W. Mason Road, Milan, as part of the Big Latch On, a synchronized breastfeeding event happening in communities across the country. Firelands lactation consultants will be present at the local Big Latch On. Refreshments, giveaways, and raffles are also available. Featuring ten food tasting stations that promote healthy milk production. The Ohio Lactation Consultant Association provided grant funding for this event.

The first Big Latch On took place in Aotearoa New Zealand in 2005, it was introduced to Portland, Oregon in 2010 by Small Beginnings Group LLC and has now taken off globally.

Firelands Regional Medical Center has Board Certified Lactation Consultants on staff to assist breastfeeding families. Many times, women quit breastfeeding because of the difficulties they encounter, whether it be insufficient milk supply, painful breastfeeding, or poor weight gain in the infant.
