Firelands Regional Health System honors more than 200 volunteers

(September 29, 2020 – Sandusky, Ohio) Firelands Regional Health System opted for a virtual recognition banquet this year for its more than 200 volunteers. The event honored volunteers that made a significant contribution to Firelands in 2019 and was themed “Firelands Volunteers are Simply the Sweetest.” Firelands volunteers made a priceless impact with more than 27,500 hours donated to helping our patients, visitors and staff.

In lieu of the traditional banquet, Director of Volunteer Services, Anne McGookey mailed a packet of ‘goodies’ that each volunteer would have received during the National Volunteer Week festivities. Additionally, McGookey personally presented each anniversary award recipient, (socially distanced), with a gift bag and special recognition either at their home or at the hospital. The following volunteers received these special awards:

  • Crème de la Crème (20 years): Heather Amezquita, Kay Eash, Trudie Ferguson, Nancy Gruver, Rol Hart, Suzanne Parker, and Beth Pitts.
  • Icing on the Cake (15 years): Marcia Shutt; Louise Moon (posthumously)
  • Crème Brulee (10 years): Ingrid Coiffard, Gladys Janssen, John Planthaber, and Ruth West.
  • Cookies-n-Cream (5 years): Rhea Banks, Susan Brooks, Lois Cruse, Gary Desmond, Andrew Franzen, Verna Lehrer, Irene Opp, Barbara Parker, Patty Pascoe, and Ed Pawlowski.

“Our volunteers are crucial to accomplishing the mission here at Firelands Regional Health System,” stated McGookey. “We are thankful for all their time and talents spread across numerous departments to benefit our patients and visitors.
