Anne McGookey Selected as the December Beacon of Light at Firelands

(Sandusky, Ohio) Firelands Health is pleased to announce that Anne McGookey, director of volunteer services at Firelands, was selected as the December Beacon of Light Award winner.

The Firelands Beacon of Light is a program developed to recognize team members who exemplify and exhibit the values of Firelands Health in the form of exceptional attitude, commitment and enthusiasm (ACE). The award goes to individuals who ACE it every day for patients and co-workers.

Anne’s nomination exemplifies this dedication. “In Anne’s tenure of leading the volunteer services program, she has had countless interactions that have made a positive impact with our patients, visitors, guests, and staff. Anne truly goes above and beyond to ensure the volunteer program and its volunteers are supported and feel valued,” the nomination read. “The volunteer program is a one-woman show and despite any obstacle, Anne puts the volunteer’s needs first, even if it requires her to step in to fill their shift or to provide them with transportation to and from the facility—you name it, there is not much that has interfered with Anne’s devotion to get the job done.”

Outside of work, Anne enjoys spending time outdoors, golfing, hiking, biking, traveling, and community service. Anne’s passion for community service led her to be involved with the Kiwanis Club of Sandusky, Erie County Imagination Library, Make-a-Wish Foundation, and Cancer Services. She resides in Sandusky with her husband, Jim. After 25 years of employment at Firelands, Anne retired on December 3.
