Healthcare Provider Adopts New Identity

(Sandusky, Ohio) The area’s healthcare provider of choice is reaffirming its position as an independent healthcare system and is introducing a new identity. Firelands Health is the area’s preferred healthcare provider as parent company to Firelands Regional Medical Center, Firelands Physician Group, and The Foundation for Firelands.

A Long-Standing Tradition

Firelands Health has a rich history with a tradition of providing the finest healthcare services available to the five-county area. It all started when builders placed the Good Samaritan Hospital cornerstone on June 27, 1876, followed by the founding of Providence Hospital in 1902 by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine. In 1933, Sandusky Memorial Hospital was opened by a group of osteopathic physicians. In 1985, the Good Samaritan Hospital and Sandusky Memorial Hospital merged, becoming Firelands Community Hospital. In 2001, Firelands Community Hospital and Providence Hospital merged to become Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Since 2001, Firelands Health has continued expanding services and provides for more patients in cancer care, interventional cardiology, wound care services, acute inpatient rehabilitation, one of the state’s largest behavioral health programs with nine locations, and many advanced surgical procedures. Firelands Health has also expanded operations in rehabilitation services at the state-of-the-art Lee C. Jewett Sports Medicine Center, which opened in 2020, and recently with the expansion of the physician group’s primary care operations at the Sandusky Healthcare Center, set to open in October 2021. Associates of Firelands Health are proud to serve each patient across all of these service lines.

A Refreshed Identity

It is with this enthusiasm towards community health and wellness that Firelands Health has reaffirmed its position and announced the new identity. The five leaves represent the hospitals and medical facilities that have created its foundational legacy: Good Samaritan Hospital, Providence Hospital, Sandusky Memorial Hospital, Firelands Community Hospital, and Firelands Regional Medical Center. The green and purple pay homage to the distinct hues established after the new millennium.

The word health in connection to Firelands’ services bears an optimistic connotation in reference to community health. Firelands Health honors the past while investing in a renewed sense of wellness for the surrounding communities in the future. “We’re just as interested in improving community health as we are in providing care for the sick and injured who enter our facilities,” said Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Normington-Slay.
