Firelands Announces New Director of Laboratory Services
(Sandusky, Ohio) Joshua Otiso, MBA, MPH, MLS, was recently hired as the new director of laboratory services at Firelands Regional Medical Center. Joshua received a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science from Bowling Green State University, and also holds a master’s degree in public health and a master’s degree in business administration.
Over the course of his career, Joshua has worked in various roles in the laboratory setting, most recently as a research regulatory quality assurance coordinator for cancer research programs. When asked why he was interested in this position, Joshua replied, “There is a great camaraderie at Firelands and a deep sense of care for the patients. The community feel of working here versus being in a large hospital system is appealing.”
Joshua says his plan as director is to focus on the equipment upgrade and laboratory remodeling project that is currently underway. “I look forward to completion of this project as it will increase our efficiency and put us on par with other big institutions.”
Engaging with his team and finding solutions to issues is Joshua’s favorite part of the job. “I love to see my team members succeed and to that goal I will do my best. The laboratory crew at Firelands is extremely talented and it is an honor to work with them.” Joshua adds, “Knowing that the work we do leads to better care of our patients brings me joy.”
Outside of work, Joshua enjoys playing pickup soccer, walking or running in local parks, and traveling with his family.
