“Save Your Pumpkins 5K” to Raise Funds for Breast Cancer Patients

(Sandusky, Ohio) You have the opportunity to contribute to the breast cancer cause by participating in the upcoming “Save Your Pumpkins 5K Run/Walk,” hosted by the North Coast Healthcare Collaborative. The collaborative consists of four area health systems: The Bellevue Hospital, Firelands Health, Fisher-Titus and Magruder Hospital. The event will take place Saturday, October 8 at 9 a.m. It will begin at Battery Park at 701 E. Water Street in Sandusky.

Awards will be given for the top three male and female runners and walkers in each age group. Day-of registration cost is $25. Each participant who registers by Friday, September 23, will receive a complimentary T-shirt in the size of their choice, along with a $5 registration discount. All proceeds will benefit foundations at each of the North Coast Healthcare Collaborative health systems. Funds will be used for patient support, breakthrough equipment and research to prevent, diagnose and cure breast cancer. Donations from friends and family who do not wish to race, but would still like to support the cause, are encouraged.

You probably know someone in your circle that has been affected by breast cancer, whether you knew it or not. Breast cancer is the most common reportable cancer among women in Ohio, regardless of race. According to the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that over 290,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year.
