The Foundation for Firelands celebrates successful events

(Sandusky, Ohio) The Foundation for Firelands celebrated its 13th annual events: Best Summer Bash and the "Caddyshack" Open in conjunction with a golf cart raffle. This two-day fundraising event hosted by The Foundation for Firelands raises funds to enhance patient care at Firelands Health. Close to 445 individuals contributed to these events, and raised a net total of $251,000. "I would like to thank all of our sponsors, participants, donors, committee members and volunteers," said The Foundation for Firelands Development Officer Jody Mast. "The outpouring of generosity and enthusiasm from all involved is truly overwhelming and will make an incredible difference in our patients’ lives.”

Best Summer Bash

Entertainment at Best Summer Bash included nationally renowned comedians Jason Lawhead, Ryan Dalton and Zoltan Kaszas. Proceeds from the event benefit enhancements to patient care and satisfaction across all service lines at Firelands.

Funds were raised through a live auction, a silent auction, and a raise the paddle outright donation. Live auction items, donated by local partners and health system employees, included a Caribbean cruise, a golf experience at Inverness Club and an all-inclusive trip to Las Vegas, among other fabulous items. Mainstage event sponsors were Janotta & Herner, Dan and Laura Keller, Mathews Ford, SEI, and Tusing Builders & Roofing Services.

The “Caddyshack” Open

The "Caddyshack" Open, the area’s premiere golf outing, was hosted at Plum Brook Country Club. The “Caddyshack” Open encourages participants to wear their most colorful and fun golf attire while raising money for a serious cause. The “Caddyshack” Open benefits Firelands’ patients and their families battling a cancer diagnosis.

The winning men's team at the "Caddyshack" Open included Bill, John, Jim and Jack Springer with a score of 56. The winning women's team included Leanne Strack, D.O., Brenda Strack, Marcy Crow and Erin Nesbit with a score of 67. The winning combined team included Cameron Ditty, M.D., Alexis Ditty, Jon Douglas and Christian Siebenaler, M.D., with a score of 60. The Al Czervik "Crazy Pants Award" went to Jen Tusing for her "Team Barbie."

Bushwood Champ sponsors for the "Caddyshack" Open included Janotta & Herner, Laura and Dan Keller, KeyBank, Mathews Ford, Amy Reese, M.D., and Norleena Poynter, M.D., and Tusing Builders & Roofing Services. The Firelands Health Auxiliary supplied lunch to the golfers. Area businesses joined the fun and demonstrated their long-standing support of Firelands Health. Marcy Manion and Manny's Tavern & Grille prepared grilled sandwiches and golf-themed refreshments along with Manny’s gift certificates to golfers whose tee shot beat Marcy Manion’s on hole 5. Kha Khet of CLAG Brewing Company provided refreshments on hole 16, and Cameo Pizza awarded gift certificates to golfers whose tee shot hit the “pizza box” target. Tarina Sidoti and team of Berkshire Hathaway Professional Realty offered snacks and refreshments at hole 18.

New to this year’s “Caddyshack” Open was a 2023 Tomberlin Golf Cart raffle, sponsored by Janotta & Herner and Catawba Island Carts. The winning ticket was drawn at the conclusion of the outing by Janotta & Herner. The winners are Shelly and Chip Chesbro of Mark Advertising.

Benefiting our community

These events significantly benefit patients in the surrounding communities. Reflecting on his journey of care, Matt Keech, whose life was saved by Firelands’ caregivers, shared his gratitude. “The hard work they put in, the effort, they never give up. How do you thank them? Can you thank them enough?” Keech is an appreciated donor to the foundation.
