Firelands Receives Primary Stroke Recertification
Firelands Regional Medical Center (FRMC) has received recertification as a Primary Stroke Center from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC). Primary stroke certification means FRMC has successfully undergone a review process to confirm its continued compliance with ACHC’s rigorous standards for stroke care, including diagnosis, stabilization and acute treatment for stroke patients. The recertification process occurs every three years with a mid-cycle review at 18 months.
“Our teams have worked hard, across multiple disciplines, to develop best practices and consistently deliver exceptional care,” said Senior Director of Quality Sheri Johnson. “This accolade recognizes the dedication of our physicians and staff.”
Strokes require prompt medical attention. Each year, 795,000 people in the U.S. have a stroke, according to the American Stroke Association. Stroke is the nation’s fifth leading cause of death, which is why FRMC is committed to provide rapid treatment for stroke, as well as provide education on stroke prevention and recognition of symptoms.
Recognizing the signs and symptoms of a stroke can make it possible for someone to get prompt treatment. Use the letters in F.A.S.T. to spot a stroke: Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty and Time to call 911. Prompt treatment may make the difference between life and death.
