Feel Better at Your Hometown Hospital
It’s unusual to find a hometown hospital with the expertise to treat the complex, as well as the routine. That’s what Firelands Regional Medical Center provides to Erie County and nearby – a range of healthcare services to treat the whole person, from birth through adulthood, no matter their economic status. When you find yourself in the throes of injury or illness, rest assured you don’t have to go far for quality care.
Your Healthcare is Our Passion
From birth, Firelands provides the right balance of medical expertise, advanced technology, and a home-like atmosphere. There were 740 births at Firelands in 2016, where families enjoyed the Center for Women & Newborns, which features enhanced security; a newborn nursery; breastfeeding and lactation consultants on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week; pediatric hospitalists; and more. In 2016, Firelands earned a four star rating from The Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies program for its breastfeeding initiatives.
As babies grow, they benefit from our pediatric services, which include autism programs for kids; speech-language development, occupational, and physical therapy at the Firelands Children’s S.P.O.T.; and pediatric clinics in several specialty areas.
Your Setbacks are Our Challenges
When a patient needs to see a specialist or another service line for treatment, oftentimes they can stay within the Firelands Regional Health System family. For example, those suffering from a sleep problem like obstructive sleep apnea can see a specialist at the Firelands Center for Sleep Disorders, where treatments range from the use of noninvasive CPAP machines to innovative treatments like Inspire therapy, which delivers mild stimulation to keep airways open during sleep.
For the patient with a sudden injury or illness, the emergency room, emergency QuickCare and Firelands Physician Group urgent cares are nearby. In 2016, Firelands saw 76,881 visits to these three areas alone. For those requiring admission to the hospital, Firelands’ 303 medical staff members provided 9,685 individuals with inpatient care last year.
Your Triumphs are Our Proudest Moments
The most difficult battles, like a cancer diagnosis or a drug addiction, are never fought alone. Cancer support services provided by the University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at Firelands Regional Medical Center include a Patient Navigator to assist with barriers to care and support throughout the entire cancer journey.
In 2016, Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services was recognized by the Huron County Board of Mental Health and Addiction Services in their Annual Report for achieving a 57 percent success rate in the treatment of people with addictions - double the 29 percent state average of successful outcomes achieved by all Ohio providers.
Even for individuals not receiving care from Firelands, the retail pharmacy is open to the public and now has extended hours to provide more convenient service. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., area residents can get their prescriptions filled.
