Volunteer opportunities

A sample of volunteer positions at Firelands Regional Medical Center is listed below. New positions are continually added.

  • Patient and guest relations: Volunteers assist staff on nursing floors by offering assistance with nonmedical needs.
  • Gift shops: The Firelands Auxiliary manages three gift shops and needs volunteers as salespersons and cashiers and for stocking and data entry.
  • Information Desk—main and south campuses: Volunteers are essential at the information desk as they assist patients and visitors, deliver flowers and mail, and help transport guests.
  • Clerical assistance, special projects: Volunteers are always needed to help departments with typing, filing, data entry, and phone reception services. Volunteer assistants often staff special projects and events.
  • Department assistance: Many departments find volunteers beneficial. Pharmacy, dietary, physical therapy, and central scheduling are just a few who benefit from volunteers.
  • Hands and Hearts from Home: Recognizing the many talents of our community members, volunteers are needed to provide handmade items such as hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, and post-surgical pillows and donations of current magazines, puzzle books, and other reading material. Please get in touch with Volunteer Services for complete details.
  • Dialysis Center volunteers

At times, we also need volunteers to work in our dialysis clinics. Dialysis center volunteers help the clinical staff unpack and stock medical supplies, answer phones and assist patients.

  • Pet Therapy | Riley's Angels

Patients at Firelands Health are offered the opportunity to receive a visit from one of several therapy dogs currently participating in our pet therapy program. Canines, big and small, make regular visits to the hospital, spreading their happiness to pet-loving patients. These sweet and gentle animals have completed significant training and testing for certification to gain entry into the program. Get more information on Riley's Therapy.
