Fall into Healthy Habits: A DBT Skills Training Highlight

DBT blog

This fall, the DBT Skills Training group at Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services participated in a special activity, "Fall into Healthy Habits," designed to reinforce the value of consistent practice in building emotional resilience.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills—including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness—are powerful tools that help individuals manage stress, regulate emotions, and strengthen relationships. While learning these skills is important, regular practice is what transforms them into healthy habits that can be relied on in daily life.

Through this seasonal activity, participants explored how small, intentional actions can lead to significant and lasting change. They reflected on their current habits, identified areas for improvement, and committed to consistently practicing DBT strategies. This begins laying the foundation for long-term balance and well-being.

Just as the fall season encourages renewal and preparation, this group activity reminded participants that practicing DBT skills regularly builds confidence, creates lasting change and supports a healthier, more mindful way of living.

Fall is proof that change is beautiful
