Are You Suffering From Joint Pain?

Do you have dull, aching pain that worsens with activity or movement in your hip, elbow, ankle, shoulder or knee? Many adults complain of aches and pains as they age and consider it a normal part of life. For athletes and active adults, tendonitis, which is inflammation of the tendon, can occur after an injury or overuse of the joint. Tendonitis can also develop from a job that requires repetitive motion, playing sports or a hobby.

If you have tried treatment such as physical therapy, cortisone injections, medication, ice, stretching and rest but still experience pain, we encourage you to reach out to us. Matthew Widmer, DO, a primary care and sports medicine physician with Firelands Physician Group, offers TenJet, a solution that doesn’t require general surgery. This approach can provide quick pain relief and help you return to the activities you enjoy. “I have successfully treated over 50 patients suffering from joint pain using the TenJet System. Many of my patients say they wish they had done it sooner,” said Dr. Widmer.

What is TenJet?

TenJet

TenJet is an ultrasound-guided surgical debridement procedure specifically designed to treat tendinosis, chronic bursitis and calcific tendinosis. The technology behind TenJet was introduced in the late 2000s by HydroCision, Inc., a company that specializes in FluidJet technology. TenJet uses pressurized, high-velocity saline as a cutting tool to effectively remove unhealthy tissue. Physicians use TenJet to treat patients suffering from chronic tendon or bursa pain caused by a variety of conditions. These include tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, jumper’s knee, hip bursitis, Achilles tendinosis, and tendon calcifications in the shoulder, elbow, hamstring or hip.

How is TenJet performed?

The minimally invasive treatment is done in an outpatient setting with local anesthesia to numb the area before a small incision is made. The physician removes the damaged tendon tissue using ultrasound guidance while leaving the surrounding healthy tissue untouched. Patients report feeling slight pressure or nothing at all during the procedure, which takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. A small adhesive bandage is applied to the area; most of the time, stitches aren’t required.
