  • Treating Patients on Firelands Virtual Care

I received my medical degree at the University of Assiut in Egypt and then received further training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Zagazig University and practiced at El-Eman General Hospital/Manfalout Central Hospital in Egypt. In 1997, I moved to the United States and completed an internal medicine internship at Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Afterward, I did my residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Kingbrook Jewish Medical Center, and completed a fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine at the University of Washington. I have always loved medicine. I was inspired to go to medical school when I was teenager. When I lived in Egypt, I worked as an OB/GYN.

I truly love physical medicine. I like it because I have a wide variety of cases. I treat patients with diverse diagnoses. I also really like that I treat the whole person. Here in rehab, we help people through medical problems, but we also respond to social, personal and psychological issues that are connected to the patient’s well-being. This job requires a personal connection to patients and personal interaction.

I think Sandusky is a great city. I love the lake and all there is to do here. I like that Sandusky is a small town that is well-situated between Toledo and Cleveland and is close to my family in Pittsburgh. I have always liked living in a smaller city, but having access to a large metropolis. Sandusky truly offers a wonderful compromise to big city living.

When I interviewed at Firelands, I was immediately impressed by the administration. They were so supportive of the medical staff and very responsive to patient needs. In addition, I was very impressed by how clean the facilities are throughout the medical center. Our unit is newly renovated and has a lot of innovative features that I’ve not seen in other medical centers, like the PT Cruiser in the rehab gym. But even more than the environment, the teamwork and collegiality within the staff really sets this facility apart from others. I’ve not met a more welcoming, skilled and compassionate collective group of individuals in one setting before.

Firelands has a really wonderful team and the patient outcomes reflect that teamwork and dedication exhibited by everyone on a daily basis.
