Board certified in both specialties from the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, Dr. Widmer also is a physician at the Firelands Regional Medical Center multidisciplinary Concussion Clinic.
Dr. Widmer completed his undergraduate degree in bioengineering at the University of Toledo and his medical education at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He served his family medicine residency at Firelands Regional Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident and pursued a sports medicine fellowship at ProMedica Primary Care in Toledo.
He is a Captain in the Ohio National Guard, and during his recent deployment to Kuwait, was one of the physicians who oversaw the medical treatment of soldiers deployed to Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
Dr. Widmer practices family medicine with Matthew A. Braniecki, DO, at 3960 East Harbor Road, Port Clinton, where he treats patients of all ages.
“I see patients ranging from infants to older adults for well and sick visits, as well as provide chronic disease management for older adults. I like the variety of patients family practice offers,” says Dr. Widmer.
Two days a week, Dr. Widmer practices sports medicine at Firelands Sandusky Healthcare Center, 2520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, where he treats children and adults for muscular-skeletal ailments and injuries.
“We welcome athletes and anyone who enjoys an active lifestyle,” says Dr. Widmer. “Most people think that sports medicine is only for treating high school and college athletes; however, we are also trained to treat all age groups that enjoy engaging in sports for exercise and pleasure. We want to keep the young and aging population as active as possible.”
