Spiritual care for patients and guests
Being hospitalized can be difficult for patients and their loved ones. Some patients and guests turn to spirituality to calm their nerves and anxiety. For this reason, Firelands Regional Medical Center offers different avenues for spiritual care to our patients and guests. Learn about these spiritual options here.
Prayer and meditation
Firelands' main campus offers a meditation room on the 2nd floor and a prayer room on the 4th floor. Both are open 24 hours a day to patients, staff, and visitors. You are welcome to use the rooms for private meditation and prayer.
The Firelands South Campus Chapel, an interfaith area on the 3rd floor, is open 24 hours daily to patients, staff, and visitors. You're welcome to use the room for private meditation and prayer anytime.
Spiritual care volunteers
Firelands also has spiritual care volunteers of many faiths who go to patient rooms to visit and pray. If a religion is listed, a volunteer will stop by the room; if a religion isn't listed but you want a volunteer to visit, please speak with your nurse. In emergency situations, the clergy is available upon request.
For those who list Catholicism as their religion, a spiritual care volunteer will visit on Sundays to administer communion. Spiritual care volunteer clergy are present during holidays, such as Ash Wednesday and Passover.
Advance directives and end-of-life care
At Firelands, we understand that discussions about advance directives and end-of-life care can be difficult, but they are important conversations to have. Our spiritual care team can help facilitate these discussions and provide emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families.
We offer resources and guidance to help patients and their loved ones make informed decisions about their care, including palliative care and hospice care. We also have a bereavement program that provides support to families after the loss of a loved one.
If you or a loved one want to discuss advance directives or end-of-life care, please contact your healthcare provider.
