Transportation
Firelands is dedicated to ensuring everyone in our community has access to healthcare. To help facilitate this the hospital offers free transportation services to help get patients to and from their appointments. This service is offered with no limits to how often it can be used.
Patient transport services
Available: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for patients traveling to and from their appointments within these hours. Transportation is available to patients living in Sandusky (some exclusions apply) traveling to their appointments at Firelands Health facilities in the Sandusky area with the exception of Corp Health, Home Health, Urgent Care, or Firelands Health ER.
Scheduling your ride
We request a 48-hour advance notice to help us schedule efficiently. However, we will do our best to accommodate last-minute and urgent requests. Scheduling is on a first-come, first-served basis, and we manage our daily capacity to serve as many patients as possible. To schedule a ride call 419-557-7052.
Important information
Please note that our transportation personnel are able to open doors, and fold wheelchairs, but they cannot provide direct physical assistance to patients. If you require wheelchair transportation you must be able to transfer independently and the wheelchair must be able to be folded and stored within the transportation van.
Patient discharge services
Available: Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
This service facilitates transfers for patients discharging from the hospital to nursing homes and group homes, and is set up by the charge nurse within the hospital. The discharge service travels one way within an hour of the hospital. We do not do patient discharges to individual homes.
